Conor's February Blog

February has been a very successful month regarding the micro mouse and its development. During the first week, we achieved our first draft of obstacle avoidance which was a momentous occasion for the group. We then tweaked it and got it to be working perfectly by the end of the week.

I updated the website which got a complete overhaul and now looks a lot better with a more professional design. An Instagram page was established which is now linked to the website where we upload our key achievements, our first post was a video of us testing the completed obstacle avoidance which the micro mouse did very well in. The cleaner looking website has been populated with images and lots of information including a completed obstacle avoidance documentation page describing step by step on how we completed it, the problems faced and how we overcame said problems; all points were supported with relevant images. Vyshnav also did a very good job in finishing the ethics and sustainability page which has a host of good information regarding the subject.

White line following was then started on and we are already very close to finishing that, to save time we didn’t make a PCB, instead we transferred the circuit we designed and tested for it onto a piece of Veroboard and simply connected that up to micromouse. There have been some teething problems regarding the robot not following the line accurately and often overshooting the corners however with small alterations to the code and changing the positions of the sensors we overcame these problems.

All in all, February was a very successful month in the development of the micromouse and we are hopeful for our performance at Gregynog.
