Vyshnav's April Blog

During April, the agenda was to get done with the website, documentation and the final presentation. We were very serious with the quality of our website and the documentation as we were not able to give our best towards the workings of the micro mouse due to COVID-19 and the university closure. When looking back at April, although due to a lot of trouble we managed to make it a very productive month. With the help of social media platforms such as Snapchat, WhatsApp and messenger (from Facebook) we were able to put forth our priorities with the different last-minute tasks and the last responsibilities each and every one had with the presentation section and so on. I was able to complete the documentations for the micro mouse within the first week. Although the website was uploaded on 3rd April, I had continuously updated the website as I was working on the documentation and the ethics section. Finally, the final version of the website was updated and published on the 10th of April. We received a mail from the EEE faculty regarding the PowerPoint presentation and its requirements for the final assessment. As instructed, we had created the power point along with the speaker notes stating what each slide talks about in detail, the pros and cons of our mouse, ethical aspect and what all our responsibilities were with the project.

Being an international student, I was advised to head back to my home country following the COVID-19 impact in Wales. At first what bothered me was how would I be able to work along with my teammates in order to finish this project with the best quality. Furthermore, due to time zone differences at times it got tough to keep in touch with my teammates. However, we all had a clear aim in mind and sacrificed a lot of our free times to get our work done. This was all possible on because of the power of social media, and the hunger for success that my teammates and I had in our mind. Whilst talking about our mindset, it would be a huge mistake from my side if I did not thank my teammates. Their work ethic, and perseverance is what drove the team. I am eternally grateful to them and couldn’t have asked for any better teammates. With everyone having their own unique talents and skills it allowed us to get the job done on time and with high quality. All in all, the complete process was something which I really needed and apart from learning a wide range of teamworking skills, it had not only furnished my academic knowledge but gave me a strong foundation towards my engineering degree.

Lastly, I would like to thank Dr. Timothy Davies, Dr Augustine Egwebe, Dr. Chris Jobling, Mr. Moody and the other technicians. We wouldn’t have reached here if it wasn’t for their continuous support and always trying to make the best out of this bad situation.
